As a beverage OEM service provider and a manufacturer of color labels, closures and PET bottles, THC recognizes the importance of environmental protection for corporate sustainability since our founding years. As a result, not only is THC concerned about cost-effectiveness during R&D, production, testing and sales, we are also working to improve environmental issues surrounding production and the products themselves.
Moreover, THC sets up clear environmental protection targets and complies with environmental protection regulations to ensure that we are on the right track towards corporate sustainability. THC will remain dedicated to and concern over issues of environmental pollution to protect the Mother Nature.

Carbon Reduction

Air recycling, Energy saving facility

In order to fulfill social responsibility and slow down global warming, THC is working on reducing CO2 and conserving energy. THC joined Energy Conservation Corps which was invited by Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, R.O.C. in 2016, and vowed that THC will make an effort to execute energy saving and carbon reducing which are important issues to THC. In the future, THC will continue to reduce carbon emissions and conserve energy to make a contribution to Earth.

Prevention and Control of Air Pollution

THC has set up an air pollution prevention and control equipment in accordance with environmental protection regulations. It was approved by the Environmental Protection Agency in October 2012 and issued certification (Taichung City Government Environmental Certificate No.: 0419-00). In order to enhance the effect of air pollution prevention and control, we have a budget of a few millions NTD to upgrade the air pollution prevention and control equipment for emission of cleaner air since April 2014.

Changed to use natural gas in boiler, reduce pollution emission effectively

In 2016, due to stricter air pollution emission policy and PM 2.5 problem in harbor zone, THC’s boiler, which set in Aseptic Beverage 1st Plant in Chungkang Export Processing Zone, changed to use natural gas from burning heavy oil. Improvement rate of PM 2.5 is as high as 99%. Natural gas has some benefits, such as effective reduce of PM 2.5 emission, high combustion efficiency, easy operation and maintenance and no need additional pollution prevention equipment.

Prevention and Control of Wastewater

Wastewater treatment reaches emission standards

Plants in Taichung Industrial Park

In accordance with the Water Pollution Control Act, wastewater from THC plants located in Taichung Industrial Park is discharged by the central wastewater treatment plant of Taichung Industrial Park as approved by the Taichung Industrial Park Service Center in November 1999. After completion of the new plant in 2013, THC reapplied for wastewater discharge approval from the Taichung Industrial Park Service Center to comply with governmental environmental measures, approval was granted after inspection by the Taichung Industrial Park Water Treatment Plant, in January 2014 (Taichung Service No.: 103010). The License for Water Pollution Protection and Control was issued by the Taichung City Environmental Protection Agency in April 2014 (Taichung Environment and Water No. 1030013602).

Plants in Wuchi

Wuchi Plant has designed comprehensive water treatment facility to process the wastewater generated by various beverage production based on the nature of the wastewater. This facility uses both physical and chemical treatment procedures including, variable mixing, chemical sedimentation (or pressure floatation), biological treatment and biological sedimentation. (as shown in Figure 1) In addition, THC invests in training of wastewater treatment personnel to attain Class B certification as Dedicated Wastewater and Sewage Treatment Specialist and establish the role of specialized wastewater treatment personnel. Regular trainings are held and the monitoring of flow volume and quality of inflow/outflow are done to allow effective management of the wastewater treatment system and ensure compliance with standard set forth by the government.
THC uses a comprehensive wastewater treatment system to process wastewater from plants and ensures that the water quality is compliant with the effluent standard prior to discharge to the receiving water. Furthermore, THC continues to improve the manufacturing process and production management in order to reduce the amount of water for per unit product, thereby reducing the strain placed on the receiving water.

Proper Waste Treatment

THC collects and temporarily stores waste produced by each production plant including, waste paper containers, waste plastic containers and waste PET before contracting a qualified waste management company for subsequent waste removal and processing. As tea and waste sludge are high in organic content, they can be collected and processed into fertilizers with proper treatment from the recycling plant. This reuse of waste reduces strain on the environment.

─Lightweight of Plastic Cap and PET Bottle

Reduce emissions of CO2 (equal to 9,600 metric tons per year)

PET bottles have become increasingly common and there is already a recycling system established domestically. However, due to the difference in degree of bottle compressibility, there is a problem of space wastage in recycling plants. As a result, THC has designed easily rotatable PET bottles that can be rotated easily in both clock-wise and anti-clockwise. The newly designed bottles can be better compressed through rotation and this frees up the recycling space by 70%.
